Summary
Urinary iodine measurement is the pivotal marker to evaluate the iodine status in populations. However, its use in a single patient is inaccurate and generally not advocated (with the exception of iodine overloading). The measurement of urinary iodine is challenging and should be restricted to reference laboratories.
