Hospitals providing evidence-based treatment at higher rates
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) revised clinical practice recommendations for diabetes diagnosis promote hemoglobin A1c (A1c) as a faster, easier diagnostic test that could help reduce the number of undiagnosed patients and better identify patients with prediabetes.
Multidrug-resistant pathogens historically were limited to the hospital setting. In the 1990s, multidrug-resistant pathogens were described to be affecting outpatients in health care–associated settings (nursing homes, dialysis centers, infusion centers, among patients recently hospitalized). More recently, multidrug-resistant pathogens have become major issues in the community, affecting persons with limited or in many cases no contact with health care.
A new patient self-assessment score shows good performance for identifying adults who are likely to have undiagnosed diabetes and may therefore benefit from screening, researchers report in the December 1, 2009, Annals of Internal Medicine
